Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A 40-year-old mentally challenged man missing from Pati Shispur village, in Damoh district, returned home from Pakistan on Saturday evening.
Superintendent of Police DR Tenivaar said the man, Barelal Adivasi, had been missing from his home, located around 20 km from the district headquarters, around two years ago. He was mentally unstable. In the last months of 2018, his family members lodged a ‘missing’ complaint with the police.
He was arrested at Bahawalpur, in Pakistan, on November 14, 2019, for unlawful entry into the country. After that, the Pakistani government contacted the Indian government about Barelal. Following talks between the Pakistani government and the ministry of external affairs, he was released and returned to India via the Attari border.
The family members and a police team were sent to bring back Barelal from Amritsar. The SP added that the man was not in a condition to answer any question about how he had reached Pakistan.
