Bhopal: Mayor, Congress at loggerheads over delay in arch bridge work

BHOPAL: Bhopal mayor Alok Sharma on Tuesday staged a sit-in near Kamlapati Ghat and lashed out at the state government over the work related to a bridge.

Congress party workers too raised slogans against mayor as a mark of protest for his failure in ensuring the work that were in the budget. They also burnt the effigy and said that the Mayor has failed in the job and that is now shifting the blame on the state government.

The blame game lasted for an hour and mayor termed the Congress protest as a means to hog limelight. He said that they know mayor is sitting on dharna and that if they will gather here then they will also get published in news.

The arch bridge is under construction near Kamlapati ghat and and Ginnori and will ensure an easy way to the residents of new Bhopal and old city without any trouble of taking round from the Raja Bhoj setu or from the side of Lower Lake and will save their time and travel. The construction started in 2016 and now the work is almost over.

However, the work is hit as the three houses near the area will have to be shifted. The construction will not be over until the houses are there.

Sharma said the state government is not allowing their shifting which is affecting the work of the bridge. He said the attitude of state government is against the welfare of the area.

He also said the Bhopal will get the prize in the survey result that will be out on Wednesday. He appealed minister PC Sharma to allow development work in the area and not to target and or intimidate BJP workers.
