Bhopal: 3-year-old scribbles on passport; father has to pay Rs 1.5K as penalty

Regional Passport Office says document is ‘damaged’

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Regional Passport Office, Bhopal has received a case of damaged passport wherein the holder’s three-year-old daughter has scribbled on a page of the document.

He will be required to pay a penalty of Rs 1,500 for getting the passport replaced.

In view of public interest, it is advised to all the passport holders that if anything is written on the passport other than by the Visa or passport office, the passport will be considered as damaged, said Regional Passport Officer, Bhopal Rashmi Baghel.

She further said that the passport is an important and sensitive government document which carries the identity of the holder across the world so it should be kept at a safe place, out of reach of the children.

The penalty for replacement of a damaged passport is Rs 1,500 in addition to normal application fee. Hence, the total fee for applying for a new passport due to damage to the old one is Rs 3,000, Baghel added.
