Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh government to provide Rs 14,500 crore to power distribution companies for subsidy in domestic and agriculture connections

The decision in this regard was taken at a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday. This subsidy is for the year 2020-21.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): For providing subsidised domestic and agriculture power supply, the Madhya Pradesh Government on Sunday decided to give subsidy of Rs 14,500 crore to power distribution companies (discoms).

The decision in this regard was taken at a cabinet meeting held on Tuesday. This subsidy is for the year 2020-21. Briefing the cabinet decision, spokesperson of Madhya Pradesh government, Narottam Mishra said that 98 lakh families receive subsidised power supply under Rs 100 for 100 unit scheme in the state. The amount will be transferred to the power distribution companies by the energy department, he said.

“The government provides subsidies for domestic power connection and 5hp-10hp irrigation pumps. A sum of Rs 14,500 crore is being deposited by the government. The cabinet has approved it today,” said Mishra.

Besides, the chief minister also asked MSME department to bring a policy to encourage industries for paddy crops and also a policy to promote ethanol plants in Madhya Pradesh.

“The cabinet has also decided to make three slabs for purchasing of paddy crops in the state,” Mishra said.

He further said chief minister is going to conduct a department-wise review from June 17. “He will do one-to-one with all concerned ministers and will hold discussions on the progress of their departments,” Mishra said.

He further said that the cabinet has also approved festival allowance for government employees.
