Bhopal: Khajuraho battles bitter cold@ 1 degree Celsius, 2.8 degrees Celsius in Nowgaon

Bhopal: Weatherman has forecast further dip in the temperature as many parts of the state are likely to experience winter rain between January 21 and 24. Cold wave conditions prevailed at isolated places with Khajuraho recording the lowest temperature in the state at 1 degree Celsius, the meteorological department said on Thursday.

Mercury settled at 2.8 degrees Celsius in Nowgaon, 3.3 degrees Celsius in Umaria and 4 degrees Celsius in Datia and Rewa.
Jabalpur, Malajhkhand, Damoh, Sagar districts are also braving bitter cold. Mist is likely to hit Rewa, Shahdol and Chhattarpur.

A series of active Western Disturbances are like to hit Western Himalayas one after another by January 20. Its effect will be seen in terms of increase in temperature as well as light rains over northern and northeastern parts of the state around January 21 and January 24. Meanwhile, winter rain deficiency has been recorded at 98 per cent until January 16 in Madhya Pradesh. Places such as Gwalior, Bhind, Datia, Morena, Satna and Rewa will receive patchy rains.

However, above system will spare the southern and central districts of the state and these areas will remain completely dry. There was a slight relief from biting cold in the state capital as maximum temperature settled at 27.1 degree Celsius, while the night temperature was 8 degree Celsius, 2.4 notches below the average in the season. Indore recorded a maximum temperature of 28.2 degree Celsius and minimum of 11.6 degree Celsius. As per the meteorological department, night temperature is expected to rise a few notches in Madhya Pradesh and some other states.
