Bhopal: Bhopal Municipal Corporation has utterly failed even to ensure supply of potable water in city on alternate days. The municipal authorities, however, have turned a blind eye to the woes of denizens. They rather claimed that piped water is being supplied regularly and in case of any disruption, the BMC administration supplies water through its tankers. While irregular water supply is a common complaint in the city, but major satellite townships like Kolar, Bairagarh, Colonies along Hoshangabad Road, Ayodhya By-pass are the worst affected.

Taps in Bairagarh, Gandhi Nagar, Bhauri covering nearly 10 wards are running dry for almost half the week. Besides the water the residents are getting is dirty and not suitable for drinking. Bairagarh people complained that water is supplied on very low pressure and for a very short duration in the entire township. To meet their daily needs, people have to depend on private tankers. The residents of colonies situated adjoining Hoshangabad road are also facing hardships due to irregular water supply. The colonies have Narmada water line, but the supply have become very irregular thus the people are facing acute shortage of drinking water. Similarly, in Kolar water augmentation project is underway for Kerwa water supply and the people here are totally depended on private water suppliers.  Bairagarh’s businessman Naresh Kirtani said, “Water level in Upper Lake is fast receding so it is not possible for BMC administration to provide piped-water in colonies in Bairagarh township. Same case is with Lalghati and Bhauri. The condition is pathetic as despite BMC plan in place to supply water on every alternate day, the people are not getting water. We have no option but to depend on private water tankers.”

BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma said, “BMC administration has totally failed in delivering its best in ensuring water supply in the state capital in scorching summer. It has no control over water management. Not only in Kolar, the people in entire city are facing hardship due to irregular water supply. Even quantity supplies id quite less. In many pockets, contaminated water is being supplied which cannot be consumed. People have opted for private water supply.” MiC member Kewal Mishra (Hoshangabad Road) said, “Colonies along the Hoshangabad Road are worst affected. While irregular water supply is major concern, to low water pressure add to the woes. This is usual summer problem which we are facing for the last couple of years. New hi-tech pumping station is being developed at Narmada River end, we are hopeful that it will improve the water supply in entire area of neo-new Bhopal.” City engineer AR Pawar said, “ We are managing the show smoothly. Wherever, water supply is disrupted due to any reason, water is supplied through tankers. We are constantly monitoring water management of the city. And people should cooperate with BMC administration as situation will be normalized with onset of monsoon. In summers, the supply is disrupted but BMC administration area always prepared to tackle the issue.
