Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The licence of Bhopal Hospital Multispecialty Trauma Centre Berasia has been cancelled due to negligence in treatment which led to the death of a high-risk pregnant woman. The 33-year-old victim, a resident of Mengipura of Berasia gave birth on October 22 last year at Bhopal Hospital Multi-specialty and Trauma Centre, Berasia. She died on way to Bhopal after she was referred there.

In the investigation, woman was kept admitted in the hospital for about 10:30 hours but she was not examined by any gynaecologist. Despite the unavailability of a blood bank, cesarean delivery was performed in the hospital before she was referred to Bhopal.

The woman was given treatment in the absence of the obstetrician and gynaecologist. Negligence of the hospital management has also come to light while referring the woman. She was referred to Bhopal with only a driver without any trained doctor or paramedical staff. A notice was issued to Bhopal Hospital New Specialty Trauma Centre. As the hospital reply was unsatisfactory, the registration and licence issued to the hospital has been cancelled.

Chief Medical and Health Officer Bhopal Dr Prabhakar Tiwari said, ‘The woman identified as high-risk by the department was not treated under the medical protocol prescribed by the hospital. In view of the hospital’s negligence, the licence has been cancelled. No medical activity of any kind will be conducted in the hospital.’
