Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A tragic road accident on Sunday claimed lives of three Maha Kumbh pilgrims and left three others critically injured, as their car collided head-on with a truck on National Highway 30.

This marks the fourth fatal accident involving Kumbh devotees in Rewa within just two weeks.

According to police, the car was returning from the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj when it lost control near Devtalab, after first crashing into a road divider. The vehicle then veered into the opposite lane, colliding with an oncoming truck.

The deceased have been identified as Rakesh Pardesi and Anjana Chaurasia, who died on the spot, and Sarita Pardesi, who succumbed to her injuries later at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa.

The surviving passengers, Shlok Pardesi, Geeta Pardesi, and another unidentified young man, are in critical condition, with two of them receiving urgent treatment. The accident adds to a rising toll of fatal crashes in the area, as the conclusion of the Maha Kumbh Mela draws increasing numbers of devotees, resulting in severe traffic congestion from Rewa to Prayagraj.

Authorities are under pressure to address the growing safety risks posed by overcrowded roads and high-speed accidents.
