Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A massive fire broke out at a hardware shop in Data Colony on Airport road on Thursday noon. The occupants of a residential complex built above the shop were safely evacuated and no fatalities were reported in the incident, the Gandhinagar police said. Gandhinagar police station house officer (SHO) Praveen Tripathi said as the shop was engulfed in flames, seven fire trucks from Fatehgarh, Bairagarh and Gandhinagar rushed to the spot. Paint, oil and other stuff kept inside the shop was gutted in the fire. The fire was put off by 4 pm.
Bhopal Mayor Malti Rai accompanied by several public representatives also rushed to the spot. A firefighter sustained several burns during the extinguishing operation and was rushed to the hospital for treatment, where his condition is said to be stable. Firefighters present at the spot said that the fire was triggered by a short circuit and the cost of the gutted goods has not been calculated yet.
Man held for molesting 8-year-old girl
A 34-year-old man was arrested for allegedly molesting an eight-year-old girl on Wednesday night. Nishatpura police station TI Rupesh Dubey said that the accused Krishnan, 34, a native of Kerala and works as a cook at a restaurant, was the neighbour of the girl. The incident happened when the girl was playing outside her house at around 11 pm. As her socks were drenched as the colony was waterlogged, she was heading towards her house to wear slippers. Krishnan, who spotted her on the way, lured her on the pretext of treating her with an ice cream and took her to his house. He then touched the girl’s private parts.
Suddenly, the girl’s mother arrived and a flabbergasted Krishnan let go of the girl. When the girl’s mother took the girl home and enquired about Krishnan’s act, she admitted to being molested. The girl’s mother lodged a police complaint against the accused on Thursday morning. The accused was arrested on Thursday.
