BHOPAL: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has registered the case against health officials for purchasing medicines and equipment under ëblindness control programmeí on almost 300 times of the market rate.
The purchase was allegedly done on fake tenders by the Sehore district health officials in the year 2017.
Under the programme, the department has purchased the medicines, equipment, spectacles and many other items for Rs 7 crore.
During annual auditing, the team identified the irregularity in 2018, and they raised the question as to why the purchase was done on almost 300 times higher than the market rate.
Interestingly the tender was issued and the firm which had got the tender did not supply the items.
The officials gave the supply order to one of the local medical stores and also paid the amount to the medical store. This was totally violation of the purchase norms.
The EOW has registered the case against the then storekeeper and the owner of the medical store. It is informed that as the investigation will be progress, more names will be added in the FIR.
