Bhopal: Duryodhana, Karna’s policies included in Indian traditional knowledge syllabus

Bhopal: The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has introduced a new chapter under which policies of Duryodhana and Karna will be taught. The NIOS has started a new stream based on Vedas in its class X and XII course. NIOS regional director VS Ravindran said new stream has been introduced to encourage Indian culture and literature.

The students who opt for this stream will study policies of Duryodhana and Karna besides Indian philosophy, Vedas, Sanskrit literature and grammar, he said. NIOS conducts distant learning courses and provide certificates for class X and class XII. The new stream in Vedas has been introduced in class X that will be extended to class XII as well.

NIOS has named this stream as Indian Traditional Knowledge- the study material, approved by the ministry of human resource, is available online. The stream includes detailed chapters on Vedic study, vedic literature, vedic art, vedic sutra, vedic devta, surya sukta, sangyan sukta etc. Moreover, chapters on Indian philosophy, atheist and believers’ philosophy, Ramayana, Karnabharam among others have also been included in the new syllabus.
