Bhopal: Stepping up its ante against the commuters who are frequently involved in speed violations the authorities have decided to impound their driving license or seize their vehicles. The Bhopal smart city development corporation limited (BSCDCL) and police have shared the details of as many as 10,000 commuters who violate speed rules and other traffic rules, frequently.

These traffic rule violators pose grave risk to others and the authorities feel a stringent action is needed for them. The repeated challans that were issued to these violators by the BSCDCL is yet to be paid by them. Repeated rule violations is not only a threat to others commuters but it is also defeating the purpose of establishment of ITMS. So it is decided that these violators have to face the action.

In a meeting with Bhopal police, BSCDCL provided all the data related to these offenders and now their database is being maintained. Their addresses will be found and either their license or their vehicles will be seized by the police with the help of RTO.

The ITMS was started in June 2018 to keep a vigil on the road through CCTV cameras at as many as 14 prime squrares and 7 prime roads in Bhopal. The ITMS was issuing e-challans for traffic rules violation since then but these habitual offenders ether deliberately or for any other reason, did not pay the amount. As they have been found to be violating the rules for over one time and not paying the fine, the authorities have now decided to take action including impounding of their license or seizure of their vehicles.
