Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Driver of an SUV reportedly dozed off after driving for nearly 18 hours, leading to a crash that left four members of a family dead and two injured in Rajgarh district on Thursday morning. The accident took place around 7 am near Karwas, under Karwas police station limits, said police. The deceased include two teenage boys.

A family of seven was on its way from Gonda in Uttar Pradesh to Surat in Gujarat. The SUV in which the family was travelling hit the road divider, said Karwas police station in-charge Ramesh Jat.

The accident took place around 7 am.  The driver of the SUV Bholenath Dubey (40), admitted to police that he lost control of the vehicle after falling asleep due to fatigue as he was driving for almost 18 hours, the officer said. The driver escaped with minor injuries as he had put on the seat belt and his airbag deployed in time, police said.

Police said that among the deceased Anmol Dubey (16) and Priyanshu Pandey (11) died on the spot, while Pramila Pandey (55) and Shiv Devi Tiwari (45) succumbed to their injuries at the Shajapur District Hospital. Pushtam Dubey (50) and Anshika Dubey (14) are undergoing treatment.
