Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh Public Health Services Corporation (MPPHSC) has distributed digital strip based hemoglobinometer machine to districts in Madhya Pradesh.
According to National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), about 52 percent of women suffer from anemia while about 72 percent of children up to the age of 5 years have anemia. Similarly, cases of anemia are found in 58% of adolescent girls.
The Digital Hemoglobinometer has been supplied to the ANMs and Community Health Officers up to the sub-health center level. Along with this, training is also being provided to the employees on its use.
In bhopal, the coroporation has supplied 211 digital hemoglobinometers, according to chief medical health officer said.
Quick and accurate diagnosis of anemia, the test will be done with a strip based hemoglobinometer machine. In this procedure the amount of Hb in the blood will be detected in less than 1 minute.
Anemia is a major cause of maternal death. Which can be identified at the right time and the possible cause of death can be reduced. Out of 211, each sub-health center has been provided with 2 haemoglobinometers and strips, which will test for anemia in pregnant women and children.
Chief Medical and Health Officer Bhopal Dr. Prabhakar Tiwari informed that at present color scale is being used to check hemoglobin or anemia. In this process, HB will be tested by digital machine for more time and for better test results.
Children between 6 months to 59 months of age have Hb less than 7 grams, while children between 5 years and 14 years have less than 8 grams of blood and pregnant women have severe anemia when they have less than 7 grams of blood.
It is necessary to identify such serious people at the right time and medically manage them. IFA pill is administered to overcome anemia during pregnancy. There is also a need to apply iron sucrose supplements in case of excessive anemia in pregnant women. These digital machines will also be used to check the level of anemia in children below 5 years during the Dastak campaign.
