More than half of seats of dental medical college remain vacant
Bhopal: There are apparently no takers of seats for dental courses in Madhya Pradesh. 672 seats have remained vacant after three sessions of ongoing NEET UG counselling, which ended on October 7.
Director of medical education Dr GS Patel said there are 14 dental colleges including government and private in the state.
These colleges have 1270 seats of dental courses, and in the three counselling only 598 students have taken admission and 672 seats are vacant.
The students are not interested in the dental courses, as most of them wanted admission in the MBBS courses.
“On October 7, around 5,000 students were registered, but no one wanted to get admission in the dental colleges, they wanted admission in MBBS courses. Whereas, all the seats of the MBBS course have been filled,” he added.
During the counselling it came to light that the students prefer good private colleges in place of government colleges, despite of high fees.
Around 10 students have withdrawn their names from Bundelkhand Medical College, situated in Sagar and taken admission in the private colleges.
The students want to study in better academic atmosphere in place of less fees options.
Dr Patel added that facilities and better educational scenario in the government colleges and in the dental colleges including private colleges will be the first priority of the department in the coming year.
