Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): An inquiry was ordered after it came to light recently that a police constable received salary for 12 years while staying at home. The probe was being conducted under an ACP level officer and action would be ensured against those found responsible for negligence in the case, police officials said.

As per reports, the negligence came to the fore after the director general of police (DGP) ordered transfers of cops who were posted at same police stations and offices for a long time and officials were asked to digitalise the details of each policeman.

Sources said that the constable hailing from Vidisha district entered the police service in 2011. After receiving training, he was sent to the police lines. After spending some time there, he was transferred to Sagar for further training. The official in charge at that time handed over his service record and sent him to Sagar.

However, the constable for some reason returned home instead of joining his duty in Sagar. He also sent back his service record to the police lines through speed-post which was submitted by the officials. Since then, no official ever took notice of the constable and his present posting.

However, his salary was regularly transferred to his bank account for 12 years. Police sources said that the transferred salary, which may amount to several lakh, would be recovered following the enquiry.

DCP Headquarters Shradhha Tiwari said ACP TT Nagar Ankita Khatarkar was heading the inquiry in this connection. Further action would be taken against the constable and those responsible for this negligence after receiving a report, she added.
