Protesting against the removal of CBI director Alok Verma, the Congress party on Friday took out a rally and demonstrated in front of the CBI office here. The rally was taken out from Habibganj and reached the CBI office. The party leaders wanted to submit a memorandum addressed to the President of India, however, none of the official from the agency came out to accept it. SDM later accepted the memorandum from the protesting Congressmen after they sat on dharna in front of the office.
Later addressing media person, Congress national spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi said that Verma was removed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he was investigating the Rafale deal irregularity. Fearing that the truths would come out in open Verma was removed by from the office, said Chaturvedi.
Officials sitting on the constitutional post were removed by the PM unconstitutionally and this has harmed the image of the most reputed agency in front of the world, she added. She also alleged that in the regime of NDA government, reputation of constitutional institutions like RBI, ED, CVC, ECI, UPS and now CBI have suffered a setback.
Asking the government from refrain from interfering in the CBI’s functioning, the party leaders demanded reinstatement of the director. In the rally the former union minister Suresh Pachori, state media president Sobha Oza, ex-MLA PC Sharma and many other were present.
