Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Classes resumed partially at MANIT on Thursday – four days after a violent clash between first and second year students of the institute on the campus. The students were boycotting classes, demanding resignation of the institute’s director alleging that he had asked policemen to beat them up.

PRO of the institution Rahul Tiwari told Free Press that around 50pc of students attended classes on Thursday. ‘I think there is no point in protesting as the Government has formed SIT, which will identify the culprits.’ Trouble had erupted on MANIT campus on Sunday night after a violent clash between groups of first and second year students.

Police were informed which used force to break up groups of warring students. Around 150 policemen remained stationed on MANIT campus on Wednesday to prevent any untoward incident. Students staged a dharna outside the residence of MANIT director Prof. KK Shukla, demanding his resignation. The MANIT administration has taken a strong stand on students boycotting classes.

If there is a case of ragging, FIR will be lodged against students who create ruckus. The miscreants are being identified with the help of CCTV footage. If the situation does not improve, hostels will be vacated, the administration said.
