BHOPAL: Former chief minister Kamal Nath has gone into defensive mode after getting a notice from the special task force (SIT) over the honey-trap pen drive. The SIT is probing the honey-trap case which was exposed in 2019. Now that Nath has received SIT notice, he has denied having the controversial pen drive. He said that as he had been the chief minister, he was given information about the case, and that many people had it.
According to sources, Nath has held discussions with lawyers. On the grounds of advice by the lawyers, Nath may deny having the pen drive. Nath may give a wide berth to the issue saying that, as he was the chief minister when the honey-trap case came to light, he was briefed accordingly.
On the other hand, home minister Narottam Mishra said Nath should hand over the pen drive to the SIT. According to Mishra, if Nath does not have the pen drive, he should mention the name of the person who has it, because it will help the SIT to lay their hands on the important document.
The BJPís state unit president, VD Sharma, said Nath, himself, had claimed that he had the pen drive. According to Sharma, Nath has fiddled with the evidence of a case which is sub judice. In trying to save a former minister, Umang Singhar, Nath is misusing the evidence of another case, Sharma said. According to Sharma, either Nath should tender an apology for telling lies, or be ready to go to jail.
