BHOPAL: A lecture session on ‘Bharatiya Rangmanch Aur Bhojpuri Rang Sangeet’ by Sanjay Upadhyay, Director of MP School of Drama was held on Monday at the meeting hall of Swaraj Bhavan. It was part of series programme ‘Bhoj’ organised by Bhojpuri Sahitya Akademi.
On the occasion, the noted theatre director threw light on the contribution of Bhikhari Thakur, who is known as ‘Shakespeare of Bhojpuri’ to theatre as well as theatrical music (Rang Sangeet).
He also presented some songs including ‘gaile re videshiya’ of Bhikhari Thakur’s play ‘Videshiya’. More than 700 shows of the play have been held. He talked about folk culture and how separation (Virah), anguish (Vedna) and moan (Vilap) have been highlighted through folk theatre in various formats. He also talked about Chaiti songs.
The programme was presided over by city-based senior theatre actor and director Mukesh Sharma. On the occasion, director of the Bhojpuri Akademi Naval Shukla, Pankaj Kumar, executive editor of ‘Bhopuriya Times’ were present along with other theatre and literature lovers.
