Sixty blood samples have been collected from Char Imli The Zika containment zone during two days of survey. Testing of 20 samples of Zika virus cases is already pending in All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). These samples will be tested at Pune-based National Institute of Virology (NIV) for confirmation.
The zone, having a radius of 3km, was created in the periphery of the up-scale area of Bhopal where the senior bureaucrats and ministers live. A team led by Emergency Medical Relief (EMR) director Dr P. Ravindran and Dr Kalpana Baruah, joint director of the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme are camping in state capital for survey. Zika virus infected patients have been reported from three districts—Bhopal, Vidisha and Sehore. These districts have been put on alert and special monitoring is being done by the health as well as central team.
