Bhopal: ₹50 lakh Burglary At Retired Agriculture Official’s House

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A burglary was reported in Bright Colony of Idgah Hills, Bhopal, where unidentified thieves allegedly looted jewellery worth Rs 50 to 60 lakh from the residence of a retired government officer. The incident occurred on Saturday evening while the family was away, and the matter was reported to police on Sunday, Shahjehanabad police said here on Monday.

According to police, the house belongs to 69-year-old Mirza Iftikhar Baig, a retired agriculture department officer. Baig and his wife, Raksha Baig, had gone to visit the farmhouse of their son-in-law in Parvalia, rural Bhopal. They left their home around 4 PM and returned around 11.30 PM the same night.

Police station in-charge UPS Chauhan told media persons that, upon arrival, the couple found the main door’s lock broken. Inside, they discovered that a cupboard containing gold and silver ornaments belonging to Baig’s wife and daughter had been ransacked. The family claimed that the estimated value of the stolen jewellery is between Rs 50 to 60 lakh, TI Chauhan said.

An FIR was lodged by Baig and his daughter, Nida Mirza at the Shahjehanabad police station on Sunday. They officers said that they would soon provide a detailed list and purchase documents of the missing items.

TI Chauhan further said that the police called in a forensic science laboratory (FSL) team to examine the crime scene. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area and have begun questioning nearby residents in search of leads.

Chauhan confirmed that the case is being investigated and that efforts are underway to identify and trace the culprits. As of now, no arrests have been made.
