Bhopal(Madhya Pradesh): District and Sessions Court, Bhopal, has sentenced 3 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to five engineers of MP Housing Board and two contractors in a corruption case. The case pertains to anomalies in construction of Abhiruchi Parisar, near Subhash Nagar railway crossing.
Special judge (anti corruption) Rajiv K Paul passed the judgment. Those who have been awarded sentence include YR Godse (Assistant Engineer), MK Qayoumi (deputy engineer), MC Trivedi (Deputy Engineer), MQ Khan(Deputy Engineer), RC Karada (Deputy Engineer), Prakash Mirchandani (contractor) and Harminder Singh Suri (Contractor). Another contractor, Nirmal Kumar Suri died during the course of the trial.
Assistant Public Prosecution officer Hemlata Kushwaha said, “ The case is related to Abhiruchi Parisar, near Subhash Railway crossing. Construction was sub-standard and contractors were paid 200% additional payment. The EOW then registered a case against engineers of MP Housing Board and the contractors in 2004.”
EOW had filed challan against 13 persons including contractor Nirmal Kumar Suri in 2008 for financial loss of Rs 1.5 crore to the department in the construction of Abhiruchi Parisar. Suri had died during the trial.
State Economic Offences Wing (EOW) police had booked the accused under Sections 120B, 420, 467, 468, 471 of IPC and Section 13(2) of Corruption Act, according to district public prosecution officials.
As per EOW, in addition to 7 persons who have been convicted ,other names which figured in challan were Iqbal Singh (assistant engineer), KK Jain(deputy engineer), OP Bansal (proprietor M/s Sure Electricals), Shiv Kumar Bansal (M/s Sure Electricals) BS Parihar (deputy engineer).
