Bhopal: An instance of careless handling of government funds has come to light where hailstorm-affected families were distributed compensation to the tune of 27 crores from the fund meant for flood affected families. Dewas district administration committed this blunder while distributing aid to the affected families in February.

A provision for extending assistance to hailstorm affected families was made but they were not distributed the money that head. When the matter came into knowledge of revenue department, it directed Dewas collector to submit a reply. The instance pertains to the tenure of collector Ashish Singh.

Singh told Free Press that he has no idea about the issue as the allocation of relief assistance is done at the level of sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) and tehsildar. On the other hand, a senior officer of revenue department expressed his surprise over distribution of assistance from the head of flood relief. He said that action will be taken against the officer concerned after looking into the reply filed by the district administration.
