Bhopal: In last five years, police department have terminated 835 policemen, while 263 were given compulsory retirement in pursuance to its 20-50 formula which aims at assessing work and performance of the personnel. 5500 departmental inquiries have been conducted during this period and the department has taken strict actions against negligent policemen ranging from constable to inspector level.
As per 20-50- formula, the department assesses the work and the record of its employee either after the completion of 20 years of service or on reaching 50 years of age. After the assessments, the department takes the decision according to the service rule. In last five years 835 policemen had been terminated, 263 were given compulsory retirement and 129 were demoted.
The police department is one of the departments which is following the orders of the chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of taking strict action against corrupt and negligent officials. The department also took action against employees who are unfit as per medical standards and who have completed the age of 50 years and are not able to perform the duties due to medical reasons.
In last five years the department has acted against 6822 persons this includes personnel from constables to inspector rank officers. Around 8719 policemen faced departmental inquiry (DI), sometimes in one case more than 20 personnel were involved. DI against 8404 policemen has been completed and in all 5556 personnel including officials have been penalised.
On an average, annually 1100 policemen face action for negligence and corrupt conduct. In last five years around 50 policemen were penalised and had to work on minimum wages. Pension of 15 policemen were withheld, while salary increment of 4264 police personnel has been stopped.
