Bhanpur trench: NGT seeks Rs 4.6 cr guarantee from BMC

BHOPAL : The National Green Tribunal (NGT), on Tuesday, instructed the state government to deposit Rs 4.6 crore as performance guarantee for closing the Bhanpur trench by October 2017.

Bhanpur trench has to be shifted to Adampur where a new landfill has to be developed for dumping of garbage.  BMC has been told to deposit Rs 4.6 crore in Urban administration department (UAD). The total cost of development of new landfill is Rs 465.76 crore.

BMC has accepted the bid of Excel Enterprises for the development of new landfill. Bhanpur trench has to be shifted to Adampur landfill which is being developed. Eight civic bodies of two districts -Bhopal, Berasia, Mandideep, Obaidullaganj, Sehore, Ashta, Ichhawar, and Kothari-will use it and 50MW electricity will be produced using MSW.

UAD has drawn up cluster-based MSW disposal plan. As per the plan, one unit of MSW disposal unit will be shared by three and four municipalities.

Advocate Sachin Verma, who appeared on behalf of state government, said, “NGT has demanded performance guarantee of Rs 4.6 crore from state government for final closing of Bhanpur trench by October 2017”.

NGT notice on tree felling on Minto Hall premises

The NGT, on Tuesday, served notices on Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), Town and Country Planning (T&CP), MP Tourism development Corporation (MPTDC) and four others in connection with felling of trees on the premises of Minto Hall.

Congress leader and BMC leader of Opposition Mohammed Saghir had filed the petition. MPTDC is converting Minto Hall into a convention centre. Saghir, in his petition, said that trees are being illegally felled and it should be stopped immediately.
