Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): In a shocking case of domestic abuse, an elderly woman in Gwalior was forced to leave her home after enduring relentless harassment from her younger daughter-in-law, whose husband—a soldier—was called back to duty amid escalating India-Pakistan tensions.

Sunita Bhadauria, wife of retired Sobaran Singh, alleged that her youngest son’s wife, Babita Singh, physically assaulted her and vandalised property on May 11, leaving her terrified.

The elderly couple, living near Pandare Wale Baba in Gwalior’s Old Cantonment area, have three sons, all serving in the military. While the eldest and middle sons live elsewhere, the youngest, Prashant Bhadauria, resides nearby with Babita.

Sunita claimed Babita only behaves when Prashant is home, but turns abusive in his absence. With tensions rising after the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindhu, Prashant’s leave was cancelled, prompting his immediate return to the border—after which Babita allegedly resumed tormenting her mother-in-law.

On May 11, Babita, accompanied by her sister and unidentified men, allegedly slapped Sunita and attempted to break into her middle son’s locked house, destroying CCTV cameras before fleeing. Sunita, now staying with relatives, accused Babita of wanting to seize the property. Despite filing complaints with the Old Cantonment police, no FIR was registered.

Notably, Babita had earlier filed an FIR against Sunita and her middle son, Deshraj, for harassment—a case still under investigation. The elderly victim has now appealed to the SSP for justice.

ASP Krishna Lalchandani said that the mother of an army personnel has accused her younger daughter-in-law of attacking her and trying to evict her from the house. The matter is under investigation. The concerned police station has been instructed to provide immediate assistance.
