Bhind (Madhya Pradesh): A gang of three men was arrested for allegedly duping women on the pretext of increasing the installment amount of the ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ - a welfare scheme run by the Madhya Pradesh government for women.

The arrests were made by Bhind's Umri Police and the cyber team in a joint operation.

The case came to light after a man named Ajay Narwaria filed a complaint. He stated that 3 men came to his house and said they work for the Madhya Pradesh government.

They told him they can increase the scheme installment from ₹1,250 to ₹3k for any eligible woman in his family, but for that, they needed ₹5k along with the woman’s Aadhaar card and bank passbook.

Accused also stole a phone

The fraudsters not only took the money and documents but also stole Ajay’s mobile phone.

Meanwhile, people from Pandri village grew suspicious when the same men asked for Aadhaar and bank details from other villagers and they informed police.

Acting quickly, Umri police in-charge Shiv Pratap Singh and his team tracked and arrested the suspects from Bajhai village. The accused claimed to be from Gwalior.

During interrogation, the trio confessed their crime. They admitted to deceiving innocent villagers by promising benefits under government schemes.

Document were sold in other states

They collected Aadhaar cards, bank passbooks, ATM cards, cheque books, and SIM cards, and used them to open multiple bank accounts. These accounts were then sold to cybercriminals in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Haryana for ₹15k –₹20k each.

Some people even voluntarily gave their accounts for ₹2k - ₹5,000, which were also sold.

The police have recovered several ATM cards, passbooks, cheque books, and SIM cards from their possession.

Further investigation is underway.
