Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The CBI has finally found out who was killed in the fake encounter case of notorious drug smuggler Bansi Gurjar in Neemuch district in 2009.

The person who was killed in the fake encounter at Besla Ghat instead of Bansi Gurjar was lodged in the Rampura police station lock-up, said officials. CBI has identified the man who was killed in the fake encounter, however, the sleuths are yet to share the details.

Gurjar was found alive and was arrested by Ujjain police in December 2012.

The central investigative agency has registered a murder case against 18 police officers and employees involved in this fake encounter.

A person who was working in the Rampura police station at that time identified the deceased and the CBI recorded his statement. Going by his statement, it appeared that an insane-looking person lodged in the police station lock-up was dressed in Gurjar’s clothes.

It was also confirmed in the investigation that this person lodged in the police station was killed by the police personnel. He was given the appearance of Gurjar. After killing him, Gurjar's identity card was kept in his pocket. For this, a deal of Rs 35 lakh was struck with Gurjar.

In this case, the then Rampura police station in-charge Gladwin Edward Kar, head constable Neeraj Pradhan of Neemuch and Durgashankar Tiwari were arrested earlier this year. Their bail petitions have been rejected by the high court.

Petitioner journalist Moolchand Khinchi has also demanded that a murder case be registered against the then SP Vedprakash Sharma in this case because this fake encounter took place on his orders.

It is worth mentioning that journalist Moolchand Khinchi filed a PIL in this case in the Indore high court which ordered a CBI investigation in 2014-15.
