New Delhi: Opposition leaders created a storm over Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s controversial selfie and flashing of the party symbol after casting his ballot in Ahmedabad.

Post-voting, Modi clicked a selfie of his inked finger along with the party’s election symbol – the Lotus – triggering political slugfest and a demand for EC inquiry into a possible model code of conduct breach.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)  general secretary Tariq Anwar said the Gujarat chief minister has already assumed that he has become the Prime Minister of India.

“See Narendra Modi can do anything. He has already assumed himself as Prime Minister of India but I think code of conduct is for everyone and for every party and for every leader. He is breaching the model code of conduct by showing party symbol and he shouldn’t have done that”, Anwar said.

Janata Dal (United) general secretary K.C. Tyagi said: “The Bharatiya Janata Party and its prime ministerial candidate, and other leaders are tearing apart the model code of conduct, and the way the election commission of India is silent on the matter is questionable.”
