The Indian automotive market has always been a tab bit more complicated than others around the globe. Where buyers in other markets have their priorities defined, the Indian buyer wants her/his car to have it all. Maruti has been the most successful in understanding this market psyche and has been the largest car manufacturer for quite some time now. Following the same trend in August 2016, the Alto has retained the top spot as the highest-selling car, with the Swift DZire, the Wagon R and the Swift coming in second, third and fourth, respectively. Let’s have a detailed look at the top 10 cars sold in August 2016.

Moving to the car makers, Maruti’s dominance in the market can be easily observed. With six of the top 10 models emerging from Maruti’s stable, it retains the top spot in manufacturers’ standings. Despite less than 50 per cent of Maruti’s sales, Hyundai is in the second spot and with less than 50 per cent of Hyundai’s sales, Mahindra is at the third spot. Have a look at the top 10 car manufacturers of August 2016.

Renault has witnessed a growth of 749 per cent from August 2015, thanks to the ever-growing popularity of the Kwid hatchback. To further help its cause, the Kwid has been launched in a 1.0-litre variant too. This car has a 999cc petrol engine which produces 68PS of power and 91Nm of torque. Honda, on the other hand, has witnessed a decline of 10.9 per cent in sales, as compared to August 2015.

With the Kwid 1.0-litre in the market, it’s possible that next month Renault might overtake Tata in the standings as the difference between them this month is of just 30 units.
