Two youngsters drown while swimming in Bhiwandi lake

Bhiwandi: Two youngsters drowned in a lake in Bhiwandi on Wednesday. The fire brigade and police who called-off the rescue operation late at night. Recovered the dead body of the two youngsters on Thursday July 1 at 10:30 am.

According to sources from the fire brigade the incident took place Wednesday evening at around 6 pm. Four friends went to enjoy swimming at a lake in Pogaon, Maskarpada in Bhiwandi. "They took a jump into the lake to enjoy swimming. But two including Mohammed Yasim Shaikh, 15, and Mohammed Imran Khan, 18, were drowned in the lake. The scared friend then contacted the local police and further the fire brigade reached the spot," said a police officer.

The fire brigade and local police carried out the search for almost two hours. But couldn't find them. Due to dark hours the rescue operation was called-off. "On Thursday morning we started the rescue operation. As it was broad daylight we were able to trace them. Both the dead bodies were recovered at 10:30 am and handed over to Bhiwandi rural police," said an official from the fire brigade.

The Bhiwandi Rural police have registered an accidental death report and handed over the dead body to the families of the deceased.
