Mumbai: A minibus carrying BMC staffers caught fire near Panch Khadda area of Kanjurgaon, on the Eastern Express Highway in Mumbai's Kanjurmarg (East) on Friday morning. Traffic on the busy road slowed after the blaze erupted in the vehicle. The incident, reported at around 7:15 am, saw the vehicle completely engulfed in flames before fire crews brought the blaze under control.

According to officials, the bus was travelling from Bhandup Pumping Station to Bhandup Station when the fire broke out. The driver and three BMC staff members on board managed to exit the vehicle safely before the flames spread, reported Times of India.

Video Shows Minibus Completely Engulfed In Fire

A video of the incident, widely shared on social media, shows the bus fully ablaze in the middle of the road as vehicles slowly passed by. The fire brigade and police were quickly mobilised and the flames were contained by 7:49 am. The damage was restricted to the minibus.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Authorities are expected to investigate whether an electrical fault, mechanical failure or another factor triggered the blaze. The incident caused brief traffic congestion, but normal flow resumed once the fire was extinguished and the bus was cleared from the road.

Another Fire Incident Reported In Andheri Recently

In a separate case earlier this week, a fire broke out in a ground-plus-one commercial structure on Kurla-Andheri Road in Andheri East during the early hours of Wednesday, August 6.

The blaze started around 3 am on the first floor of the Sumita Complex in Shanti Nagar. Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) teams, along with local police and civic ward staff, reached the spot quickly to begin firefighting operations.

According to officials, the flames were confined to a 600–700 sq. ft. area on the first floor, damaging electric wiring, installations, decorative items, various plastics, office records and furniture. Classified as a Level 1 (minor) fire at 3:23 am, it was fully extinguished by 6:30 am after three and a half hours of operations. No casualties were reported and the cause of the Andheri fire remains under investigation.
