Mumbai: Gearing up for the monsoon, I A Kundan, Additional Municipal Commissioner, on Monday said that the corporation has sent notices to the residents of around 750 buildings that were declared “extremely dangerous” to vacate their houses in order to avoid any loss of human life in case of a collapse.
Kundan further informed that the 737 buildings comprise of the corporation’s 81 buildings, 23 MHADA buildings, and 633 private buildings that have been declared as dangerous to whom notices have already been sent and the evacuation of the residents is still in process.
Around 63 buildings belonging to the civic body have been included in the C1 category that means the buildings are highly dangerous and need immediate attention.
Two years after the Dockyard building collapse incident, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) is trying its best to avoid mishaps this monsoon since the dilapidated buildings can collapse at any given point of time.
Recently an annual pre-monsoon building survey claimed that 737 buildings were extremely dangerous after which the civic body is trying to vacate all of the buildings.
