Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed the Principal Secretaries of various departments of Maharashtra government to remain present on January 27. The court has called upon the bureaucrats to discuss solutions for the pertinent problem of ‘malnutrition’ amongst tribal communities in the State. Maharashtra leads in the highest number of malnutrition deaths.

The direction came from a division bench while hearing a PIL, highlighting the poor conditions of tribal people. The bench has been hearing a bunch of petitions since 2007.

Advocate Neha Bhide, the special counsel for the government, on Tuesday submitted a lengthy affidavit stating the steps undertaken to comply with the bench’s orders.

After perusing the bulky affidavit, the bench appreciated the steps taken by the government to enhance the working conditions of the tribals.
