Indore : On the first Monday of Shravan, women and girls walked into Shiva temples to pray to the god for various reasons.
While most girls prayed for a good life-partner, others hoped to find peace and purification of mind, body and soul. Tradition of fasting is not limited to girls only even boys participate in it for similar reasons.

Explaining other benefits of fasting during Shravan, homemaker Ruchi Bajaj said, “Fasting was initially started because vegetables are usually infected with insects and fungus.” She elaborated that the idea was to switch over to fruits and lighter diet.
Sharing the reason for keeping fast, marketing professional Jitendra Saluja said, “Fasting makes me feel closer to god and that helps me stay sane.” He explained that fasting takes his mind away from day to day activities to spirituality and mysticism. “In our everyday life, we tend to ignore ourselves and Shravan is a great time to introspect on our thoughts and emotions,” he added.
