Nestled in the gorgeous Aravali mountain range, Mount Abu is the only hill station of Rajasthan. The place is a must visit that boasts of lakes, temples, cool climate and a beautiful land to get rid of the scorching heat of the desert state. It is an ideal spot for an exotic celebration of the Mount Abu Summer Festival held annually during Buddha Pournima. Visitors can witness authentic Rajasthani arts, crafts, music and dance. The festival is held in the Hindu month of Ashadh, which coincides with May or June in the Gregorian calendar, on Buddha Pournima. The festival honours the diverse colourful culture of the state, hospitality of the people and the exotic location, making it an experience one cheers for life. In 2018, the two-day festival begins on April 29.
Organised by the Rajasthan Tourism, the festival gives visitors a wonderful opportunity to experience the rich and diverse culture of Rajasthan. The festival begins with ballad singing and a traditional procession, that comprises of Rajasthani and Gujarati folk dances and music. The day moves forward with a host of competitions, cultural performances and entertainment programmes. The two-day event is power-packed with activities like horse races, boat races at the Nakki Lake, matka races, tug of war, skating races, band show and more. The highlight of the event is ‘Sham-e-Qawwali’, which features several popular qawwali singers. The festival concludes with a spectacular display of fireworks.
