Moderate rains with likely thunderstorm

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has declared a possibility of light to moderate rains with thunderstorm activities over Mumbai in the next two days which is the result of the monsoon withdrawal.

According to the IMD forecast for the next 48 hours, Mumbai will witness general cloudy skies with light to moderate rain/thundershower in the city and suburbs.

According to IMD official KS Hosalikar, a cyclonic circulation lies over south Coastal Andhra Pradesh and another one lies over the central parts of the south Bay of Bengal.

"All India severe weather warnings have been issued by IMD today for the coming 5 days. Possibility of light rain and thunderstorms over the city and nearby regions for the next two days. Also, northern parts of Raigad district, Navi Mumbai, Ratnagiri, ghat areas of Pune and Satara have the possibilities of moderate thunderstorms," added the official.

Mankoli bridge will be opened for public in April 2023, says MMRDA chief

The Mankoli bridge being constructed on the creek between Retibunder Mothagaon on the Dombivali side and Mankoli on the Bhiwandi side will be opened for the public in April 2023, informed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) Commissioner SVR Srinivas.

The bridge will reduce the time of commute between Thane-Dombivali from more than an hour to half an hour and will ease traffic congestion in the city.

A meeting was held between top Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) and MMRDA officials at the MMRDA office on Monday (Oct 3) to discuss the current status of Mankoli bridge to review progress.

Srinivas said the work on the bridge is in its final stages and the milestone addition will be completed by April 2023.

Rapido driver flees with student's cellphone

A 17-year-old has filed a complaint with the D B Marg police against the driver of Rapido, a bike taxi aggregator, for reportedly requesting his phone to make a call and escaping with the device. The police have stated that they would write to the corporation for the driver's details.

The minor college student, who is from Agripada in South Mumbai, told the police that he frequently takes a bike taxi to get to his college in Churchgate and his tutoring centre near the Opera House.

Jitendra Awhad backs suspended woman conductor, seeks her reinstatement

Nationalist Congress Party leader and former Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad has opposed the action taken against the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) woman conductor who was suspended as her video while in uniform went viral.

The conductor should be reinstated at the earliest failing which the female unit of NCP will back her and protest, he told media persons. Ahwad has instructed the Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to reinstate the conductor. He has tagged Shinde in a tweet on the matter.

Thane: Unidentified woman's dead body found at Shivaji Nagar lake in Kalwa

The Thane Disaster management unit recovered body of an unidentified middle-aged women from a lake in Kalwa area in the city on October 7. The officials said that they received the information around 8.46 am.

The officials said that one pick-up vehicle, one fire brigade personnel and a disaster management unit were present along with Kalwa police personnel.

The body was sent to hivaji Hospital in Kalwa and the police is currently probing the matter.

Chemical-laden tanker overturns in Palghar; traffic hit on state highway

A tanker laden with chemicals overturned in Maharashtra's Palghar district, causing traffic jam for a couple of hours on Friday, police said. There were no casualties in the accident that took place on Boisar Chillar road in the morning hours, Palghar police PRO Sachin Navadkar said.

A tanker carrying chemicals used in the manufacturing of colours was heading to Tarapur from Mumbai, when it overturned at Warangade village, he said. The movement of vehicles was affected on the state highway for a couple of hours till the tanker was removed from the road, the official added.
