Gautam Navlakha's release stalled over 'safety concerns' raised by NIA; actor Suhasini Mulay stands as his surety

The release of activist Gautam Navlakha, an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoists links case, was delayed yet again on Wednesday as the National Investigation Agency (NIA) raised safety concerns about the premises in Navi Mumbai where he had proposed to live during his house arrest.

Veteran actor Suhasini Mulay appeared before the special NIA judge Rajesh Katariya during the day and stood as surety for Navlakha which the court accepted. 

Navlakha's lawyers, advocates Yug Chaudhry, Wahab Khan and Chandni Chawla, were likely to move the Supreme Court after Wednesday's ruling of the special NIA court, sources said.

"Since there is strong objection on the part of the prosecution (NIA) for keeping the accused in the premises on account of safety and security of the accused, it would not be proper to keep the accused under house arrest in the given premises," the judge said in his order.

Minor jumps off speeding auto to save herself from molestation by driver in Aurangabad

A video has been doing rounds on social media where a girl can be seen jumping off a speeding autorickshaw in Maharashtra's Aurangabad.

Western Railway revises timings of 25 trains for Vande Bharat Express

The Western Railway has revised the timings of 25 trains in view of the schedule of the Mumbai-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Express with an aim to have smooth train operations, officials said.

Among the trains whose timings have been revised includes Mumbai-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express and its schedule has been revised between Vapi and Ahmedabad railway stations in Gujarat, a release said on Tuesday.

Two leopards trapped in cages in Aarey Colony

Two leopards on Tuesday walked into trap cages kept at a specific spot in Mumbai's green lung Aarey Colony, which had seen multiple incidents of human-animal conflicts in the recent past, forest officials said. So far four leopards have been captured over a month.

Multiple incidents of human-leopard conflicts had taken place in Aarey Colony in which a two-year-old child was killed, officials said.

"Trap cages were placed at Dairy Unit no 15 in Aarey Colony. Two leopards walked into the cages on Tuesday morning," a Forest department official said.

Mumbai records worse AQI than Delhi

A day after settling in the moderate category with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 183, the city's air quality shot up to 262 on Tuesday. It was worse than the national capital which, too, breathed 'poor' quality air with an AQI of 209.

Both the cities remained in the 'poor' category until evening, following which Delhi's AQI improved to 'moderate' category, while that of Mumbai continued to remain 'poor'.

Since last week, the city's AQI has been swinging between the moderate and poor categories. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research(SAFAR), the most impacted areas on Tuesday were Malad (AQI 320) Mazagaon (316) and Borivali (303) as they breathed 'very poor' quality air.
