The high-profile constituency has been a Congress bastion as the seat was held by Sonia Gandhi for close to 20 years. However, this time around, Rahul Gandhi of Congress decided to contest from this seat after Sonia Gandhi announced retirement from electoral politics.

Difference in vote percentage

Rahul Gandhi is likely to win as he continues to lead Rae Bareli constituency with 6,84,261 votes. On the other hand, BJP's Dinesh Pratap is shown trailing by 3,88,615 votes.

Rae Bareli is one of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. Voting in Rae Bareli was held on May 20 under phase 5 of the Lok Sabha Elections. The result will be announced on June 4. The voting percentage in Uttar Pradesh in phase 5 of the Lok Sabha Elections was 57.79 per cent.

Almost all the exit polls, released on the evening on June 1, predicted BJP led NDA majority in Uttar Pradesh. However, from the Rae Bareli seat, Rahul Gandhi is shown to be ahead of his nearest rival and BJP candidate Dinesh Pratap Singh.

Rae Bareli Lok Sabha Seat: Previous Results

The Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat has been a Congress and Nehru-Gandhi family bastion. While Sonia Gandhi won the seat five times (2004, 2006, 2009, 2014 and 2019), the seat was also won by former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi in 1967, 1971 and 1980.

The BJP managed to win the seat in 1996 and 1998 when Ashok Singh registered victory from the seat. However, Rae Bareli has voted for the Congress and Sonia Gandhi for the last 20 years, as data shows.
