White House Clarifies JD Vance Has Not Departed For Pakistan As US-Iran Ceasefire Deadline Nears

The White House on April 21 clarified that US Vice President JD Vance has not left for Pakistan and is currently attending policy meetings, according to Reuters. This comes as the two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran is scheduled to expire on Wednesday (April 22).

Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has said that Iran is yet to provide formal confirmation of its attendance at the talks with the United States in Islamabad.

The United States and Iran were originally expected to hold their second round of direct negotiations on April 21 in Islamabad, Pakistan. However, the talks did not take place as scheduled due to delays in the departure of both sides.

According to reports, no US delegation is currently in Islamabad, and no Iranian delegation is present in the city either, despite expectations of their arrival for the scheduled second round of talks. The absence of both sides has increased uncertainty over the diplomatic engagement.

Following the White House’s clarification about US Vice President JD Vance’s whereabouts, the delay has raised fresh concerns over the seriousness with which both parties are working toward the ongoing truce.
