In an epic meltdown, former World No 1 Daniil Medvedev destroyed his racquet and net camera In Frustration after losing a point against Thailand's Kasidit Samrej. The Russian was booed by the Melbourne crowd after the incident.

The incident happened in the ninth game of the third set, Medvedev missed a passing shot from Samrej, and the world no. 5 responded by smashing his racquet into the net, multiple times. That left not only the racquet and net mangled but also destroyed the camera. After the end of the third set, the net camera was replaced as the commentators criticised the act.

Medvedev in the past has had history of outbursts. Backing in 2019 during US Open, Medvedev flipped off the crowd after defeating fellow Russian player Andrey Rublev.

This sparked controversy, although Medvedev later apologised for the gesture. Arguing with umpires, smashing rackets, or displaying frustration when things aren't going his way are some of the things that Medeved has had in the past.

Medvedev Beats Samrej in five sets

Samrej was trying to become the lowest-ranked man to eliminate one of the top five seeded players at a Grand Slam tournament since the ATP's computerized rankings began in 1973.

After losing the first set the Thai player stunned the Russian by breaking him at 5-4 to take the second and was well on top in the third before the Medvedev meltdown.

Despite losing the second and third set, Medvedev regrouped himself and held his nerve to win the match 6-2, 4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in three hours and 8 minutes.
