A horrifying incident unfolded in Panvel after alert passers-by reportedly rescued a young girl from a locked public toilet, where she was allegedly being sexually assaulted by a young man.

The incident has sparked outrage online, with many calling for swift action against the accused as video footage of the event went viral on social media. The visuals purportedly show locals becoming suspicious after hearing noises from inside the locked facility. After they knocked on the door, a minor girl emerged, followed by the young man inside.

Outrage erupts among locals

Subsequently, the crowd dragged the accused out and beat him for assaulting a minor. Upon being caught red-handed, the accused made the shocking claim that "she herself wanted it."

The enraged crowd thrashed the man before handing him over to the police. Authorities have yet to officially comment on the accused’s statement, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault is ongoing.

In a separate case

In a separate case, a 20-year-old Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) student from Thane was arrested for allegedly kidnapping, sexually assaulting, and repeatedly stabbing a Class 12 student in Nagpur after befriending her on Instagram using a fake identity.

The accused has been identified as Nirmay Madhav Pakhare, the son of a prominent doctor couple from Thane and the nephew of a senior IPS officer. According to the police, Pakhare created a fake profile under the name "Akash Mehra" in May 2023 and befriended the victim, who was 16 years old at the time and is the daughter of a revenue officer.

Following a police probe, the girl was safely rescued; however, she suffered severe injuries after the accused allegedly attacked her with a knife. Pakhare has been taken into police custody, and further investigation is underway.
