Traffic Congestion Dropped By 30%
A recent traffic police survey conducted last year showed that congestion around the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) area reduced by 30 per cent since the metro began operations. Moreover, the survey also observed a decline in the number of commuters using BEST buses and share taxis, indicating a shift towards metro travel for daily journeys. The survey found that about 45,000 people use Metro Line 3 daily from CSMT and nearby stations. The CSMT area earlier which use to see heavy vehicle movement from routes such as JJ Flyover, Mahapalika Marg, Hazarimal Somani Marg, and DN Road, especially during peak hours, showed noticeable improvement.
The Mumbai Metro 3 witnessed a phase-wise opening. The initial phase connecting Aarey to Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) was inaugurated in 2024, while in May 2025, Phase 2A, extending services from BKC to Acharya Atre Chowk (Worli), was opened to the public. The final phase of Metro Line 3, from Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 8, 2025, with full commercial operations beginning on October 9, 2025.
