Baramati: The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is expected to submit its preliminary investigation report into the January 28 Baramati plane crash reportedly within 45 days. The crash claimed the life of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others.
Pune MP and Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said the AAIB has secured the aircraft’s black box and that further discussions on the progress of the probe would take place shortly. Speaking to The Times of India, Mohol said, “AAIB has the black box. Since I am in Delhi, I will speak to the AAIB on the progress of the investigation.”
The crash occurred on January 28 as the aircraft attempted to land at the Baramati airstrip. All five occupants on board were killed in the accident. Officials familiar with the investigation said initial findings are focused on operational conditions at the time of landing, including weather-related factors.
Video footage from the day of the accident indicates that low visibility in the area may have played a role in the crash, reported TOI, citing another official.
The official further added that the airstrip has been operational for several years and has regularly been used by flying schools, with multiple aircraft having landed safely at the facility in the past.
