Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A major crisis is unfolding across the Malwa-Nimar region as rampant black marketing of DAP (Diammonium Phosphate) fertiliser continues to go unchecked.
Farmers are struggling to get essential fertiliser from rural cooperative societies, while dealers, in collusion with company officials, are allegedly diverting stocks into the black market at inflated prices, alleged Sanyukt Kisan Morcha’s farmer leader Bablu Jadhav.

According to guidelines, once DAP is received from the company, it cannot be moved or sold without notifying the Agriculture Department. However, recent incidents have revealed a complete breakdown of this process.
A high-profile case was exposed in Harda district, where a single firm was acting as dealer, handler, and transporter. Without informing the authorities, they illegally distributed large quantities of DAP to surrounding districts, he said.
Farmer leaders including Ramswaroop Mantri, Shailendra Patel and Chandan Singh Badwaya, revealed that the situation is widespread across the entire region. Farmers are being forced to buy DAP at exorbitant prices due to the lack of supply through official channels.
“Rural cooperative societies, the main lifeline for farmers do not have fertilizer in stock. Yet, DAP is freely available in the black market, which highlights the involvement of dealers and company officials in this illegal trade,” the farmers alleged.
“As per regulations, as soon as fertilizer is unloaded from railway rakes, it must be registered on the online portal and reported to the Agriculture Department.
Only after that, and with proper approval, can it be distributed to dealers or other locations. However, this process is being blatantly ignored throughout the
region, allowing dealers to transport and sell DAP as they please,” said Jadhav. The farmer leaders have demanded a high-level investigation into the distribution of fertilizer in the Indore and Ujjain divisions.
