Over 100 Students Fall Ill After Yoga Day Meal At Shishukunj International School In Indore; Parents Stage Protest -- VIDEO

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Over 100 students fell ill in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore after they consumed a Yoga Day meal at Shishukunj International School, as reported on Monday.

According to information, the school is located in Jhalaria. The affected children, studying from Kindergarten to Class 4, began complaining of severe stomach pain, vomiting, and fever soon after returning home.

Parents and school sources, more than 100 children from Kindergarten to Class 4 became ill after having the midday meal and water on campus.

The children complained of severe stomach pain, vomiting, and fever. As their condition worsened, parents rushed them to nearby private hospitals and children’s clinics.

Doctors later confirmed several cases of food poisoning, gastroenteritis, and dehydration.

Video shows chaos at school reception

A video from the school showed angry and worried parents confronting staff inside the school’s reception area.

The footage captured a large crowd of parents asking school officials for answers over the delay in action. In the video, one parent can be heard saying:

"We have been standing here for the past half hour. Are you going to increase the staff only when we tell you to, or do it on your own? Parents are worried, so many are standing here, and you are taking no action at all. What is the meaning of just standing there silently?"

The video showed parents upset over the slow response of the school administration while children waited during the chaos.

Parents protest, officials collect samples

By Monday morning, the suspected food and water contamination had triggered protests outside the school. Senior Food Safety Officer Manish Swami said officials visited the school and collected food samples.

“We suspect expired spices, salt, and other food items may have been used. The samples will be sent to Bhopal for testing,” he said.

Regarding the matter school headmistress Richa Tiwari said, "Yes, we are concerned because quite a lot of school students got sick suddenly. However, there is no proof that they got sick because of the school. We received several emails and complaints. It should be noted that complaints came after 48 hours of children facing stomach infections. We launched an investigation at our end for food and water. Food doesn’t have a lot of chances. There is no stale food used in our school."

She further added, "There was cooked food with rajma, rice and chaulai, and we served ice-cream. The ice cream was from Amul, a well-known brand. It was manufactured in June. The shelf life was one year. Now, in water, we have RO plants in both junior and senior wings. The RO plant was also serviced last month. All the school staff had the same food as the kids. We are still trying to find out why the kids fall into sickness due to an infection. We have received 35 emails, and we have a record of 100 students. Students of the junior wing have mostly reported infections. Even parents are welcome to inspect the school’s kitchen and mess.”

Police reach school

As the protests grew, police from Kanadiya police station reached the school around 1:30 pm. Station in-charge Saharsh Yadav said the school told them the food was served on Saturday and CCTV cameras are installed in the mess area.

He added that no students were hospitalised and no written complaint had been filed by parents so far.

Earlier safety lapse

This is not the first such incident at the school. In November 2025, five students were injured after a glass beaker exploded during a chemistry experiment, raising concerns over student safety at the school.
