Latina pop sensation Shakira performed a free concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Saturday night (May 2). The Grammy-winning and Guinness World Records-holding Colombian star drew approximately 2 million people to one of the world's most iconic waterfronts. This came days after a construction worker died in a tragic accident during preparations for Shakira’s concert in Brazil.

A viral video on social media shows huge crowds of fans gathered at the concert, dancing on the beach. The free concerts are part of an initiative led by Rio’s City Hall to boost economic activity after Carnival and New Year’s Eve festivities, ahead of the month-long Saint John’s Day celebrations in June.

Earlier, Shakira said in an interview with Brazil’s TV Globo that she expects the Copacabana concert to be the biggest of her career. "For me it’s a dream. Shakira India Tour Postponed

Shakira was set to return to India nearly 19 years after her electrifying 2007 Mumbai performance during the Oral Fixation Tour, with a grand two-city tour this April. She was scheduled to perform at Mahalaxmi Racecourse on April 10, 2026, followed by a show at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on April 15.

However, the organisers announced that Shakira's India tour had been postponed due to the "geopolitical situation and regional tensions."

"Due to the prevailing geopolitical situation and regional tensions, the Feeding India Concert featuring Shakira has been postponed until further. The well-being of our fans, the artist, and the production team remains our foremost priority. All ticket holders will receive a full refund, automatically processed to your original mode of payment," a post on District Updates' Instagram handle read.'

"We're working with the artist team to find a new date and will share updates as soon as we have them. Feeding India Concert has always stood for something greater - and that commitment remains unchanged," the organisers said.
