Morena (Madhya Pradesh): Three young girls died on the spot and four others were injured after a stone slab of a temple collapsed in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district.
According to information, the incident occurred in Ahrauli village of Morena district on Sunday. The tragic incident occurred while construction work was underway on the temple.
The deceased were identified as:
Vaishnavi Sikarwar (11), daughter of Jeetu Sikarwar
Chhaya Goswami (7), daughter of Ashok Goswami
Karishma Goswami (9), daughter of Ashok Goswami
Women, children injured
Four women and children were also seriously injured in the incident and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
It is being reported that Satish Gaud, a resident of Mungawali, had come to the temple with his wife Prithvi to offer prasad.
He also called a few young girls inside the temple to help with the offering. During this time, a slab from the old roof collapsed, trapping the girls sitting below under the debris.
The incident claimed the lives of Vaishnavi Sikarwar, Chhaya Goswami and Karishma Goswami, while 6 others were seriously injured and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Villagers present at the spot immediately began rescue operations, removing debris to pull out the injured and the bodies.
On receiving information, Joura SDM Shubham Sharma, along with police and administrative teams, reached the site. The injured were admitted to Kailaras Hospital.
Local resident Lalu Sharma said the Chamunda Mata temple was established nearly 150 years ago.
Initially, it was only a platform, and about seven years ago, villagers collected donations to build walls and a roof using small slabs.
At present, a dome was being constructed without removing the old, weak roof. The extra load proved too much for the thin slabs, causing them to collapse.
