US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned from her post on Tuesday due to the increasing outrage over the agency's failure to prevent the assassination attempt against the former United States President Donald Trump, says report. A shooter attempted to assassinate Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.
Kimberly Cheatle was lambasted by members of a House committee on Monday (July 22) during a hearing regarding the assassination attempt on Donald Trump at his rally in Butler Township. Donald Trump narrowly survived the assassination attempt as he moved his head at the last moment, causing the bullet to graze his ear and pass by.
Had he not moved, the bullet could have struck his head, potentially resulting in his death. The attacker was shot dead by snipers on the spot after reportedly firing three rounds at the former President of the United States.
During the hearing, Kimberly Cheatle refused to resign from her position and claimed that she was the best person for the job. The US Secret Service is responsible for providing protection to the President, Vice President, and their families, as well as to leading presidential candidates in the US.
